All in all, Cisco offers certifications in nine disciplines falling under the umbrella of networking which are, routing and switching, design, security, storage networking, service provider, service provider operations, specialist and voice. While candidates can take exam for a certification in one discipline at a time, there is absolutely no restriction on one person having more than one certification in different areas of networking. For instance, any one can have a Cisco certification in design as well as in security. Moreover, certifications of three different proficiency levels are offered, where in a candidate can take an entry level certification exam, a certification of moderate level or an advance level certification. When doing Cisco certification you can either do it conventionally, or you can opt for Cisco certifications online. But no matter how you prepare for Cisco certification exam, you will have to pass it by taking two types of exams. Firstly, candidates will be tested with the written exam which consists of a two hour long computer based test. Meanwhile, in the second phase candidates will be tested practically with an eight hours long hands-on lab test requiring examinees to configure and troubleshoot networks.
